Instructional Information Academic Advisement All students are assigned to Counselors and Vocational Advisors. The advisor may counsel students in such areas as academic progress, vocational choices, policies, and other issues. Orientation and Assessment Each online learner is required to complete the Self-Assessment and the Orientation online. The information on how to access these is provided to the learner upon admission to UTTC. Course Load A full-time student is registered for 12 or more credit hours in a semester. Any student wishing to enroll in more than 18 credit hours in a semester must have the written approval of the Dean of Academic and Vocational Programs. Grade Point Average Grade Point Average(GPA) is determined by dividing the number of honor points earned each semester by the total semester hours attempted. The cumulative GPA is determined by the same formula. Incomplete and withdrawn semester hours are not used in calculating a student’s GPA. Semester hours failed are used in calculating the GPA. When a course is repeated, the most recent grade will be used. Grade Appeals A student may appeal a final grade in any course. The appeal must be done within one semester after the grade is received and after the student discusses the grade with the instructor who assigned the grade. Clerical errors can be corrected by the instructor signing the correction on the official records. If the result of the discussion is not satisfactory, the student may formally appeal the grade to the Academic Dean. Honors UTTC believes it is important to recognize students who have distinguished themselves by high scholastic achievement. Students have the opportunity to be placed on the President’s List(3.5 - 4.0)and the Vice President’s List(3.0 - 3.49). These lists are publicized to give recognition to the students. Library Services The UTTC Library, an integral part of the academic life of the college, supports the vocational and academic programs through reference and research. It has a sizable Native American collection. Approximately 100 magazine and journal titles and 40 daily and weekly newspapers are maintained to provide students ad staff with materials for study and research. The library’s holdings are in an automated catalog called INFO*LYNX. This computerized catalog provides online access to library resources, member regional libraries, and several periodical indexes with many full-text articles. Computer access links the UTTC Library to the major academic and public libraries in North Dakota. Resources not available locally may be requested through interlibrary loan. All students registered in online courses have access to the library services through each course. Email Charlene Weis, the librarian, for assistance. Or you can to to the virtual library on the student links. |
